    Mini F56 Oddities and Exasperations Don't worry this is not going to be another rant about the growth spurt we've watched the MINI grow through, that topic has been beaten to death not to mention you would have to be the village idiot to not notice. What I do find exasperating however is that the exterior dimensions have increased but interior space has not grown proportionally. For instance head room, in the front there is an increase of 12mm of a half inch, yet in the rear F56 has 17mm less available headroom. The Madness continues when you move to shoulder room, F56 has 10 mm less usable shoulder room in the front, yet 84 mm growth in rear headroom. At least the boot has grown to 212 L from 160 L. Although how much is actually usable is debatable I suppose. Another exasperation on my end is that MINI said that the 2014 Cooper had a lighter body than the outgoing R56, all well and good but curbweight has still increased by 32 kg (70 lbs). Not much I agree, but MINI why say anything at all? I test drove an F56 with the 1.5L petrol 3 cylinder and I have to say I was severely underwhelmed by the butt dyno. Yes it handles sharply and the suspension is comfortable yet sporty, the problem is the engine is anaemic almost as if it has an aversion to semi reckless behaviour. Almost as if its trying to keep us safe from our own indiscretion! The last thing that stood out as odd was the electronics. The HUD is a cool feature I will admit but the dinner plate centre stack just seems redundant when you have this excellent HUD in your face already. Not to mention the flashing epileptic fits it tends to throw every now and then... In all honesty I think my biggest issue with the F56 is the fact that it now feels too much like a sterile BMW and not a cheeky little MINI...
