It's even worse

This app has been bad for a long time. With the most recent update it's now even worse. They've given us access to the Washington Post app, which seems to be a tease. The WP app is an example of what a daily newspaper app SHOULD be. Post Standard, find out who wrote that app and contract with them!

Generally good, but with bugs

I have the app installed on an iPad Mini with 32 GB of storage. The app generally works well and is easy to use, but there are several bugs that have not been addressed, and when you go to "Report a Problem" it takes you to a dead link on the Syracue Meda Group site, with no obvious choice on their home page to report problems. The bugs, in order of seriousness: 1) I went to update the OS on my iPad and was unable to do so because the iPad was out of memory. On the iPad I went to Settings>General>Storage and iCloud Usage>Manage Storage to view what was taking up all of the space. The Post Standard app was consuming 8 *GB* of space! I have the app set to store 3 editions (the minimum allowed - I wish it would let you set it to 1 or 2 editions). At the bottom of the Editions windowin the Post Standard app is a "Clear Storage" button. Clicking on that button (but saying "no" to "clear personal settings") brought the app's memory usage down to 69 MB of storage used, much more reasonable. There obviously is a bug in the app that does not release memory that should be released - users should not have to manually clear the storage, and the app should respect the number of editions selected. 2) The app periodically exits back to the home screen on the iPad. If you double click the home button the app is still open and still on the page you were reading, and selecting it brings you back to that page, but for some reason it randomly kicks you back to the home page. 3) When you switch screen orientation (portrait to landscape or vice versa), the screen formatting gets messed up and the control buttons on the right side of the screen disappear. You can fix this by selecting an article in the left pane, but that is not obvious when it happen and again, the app should be able to handle an orientation change gracefully.

I really wanted to like this app

The design and functionality are impressive when it works, which is rarely. Pages that stay blurred when zoomed, inexplicable reload/retry errors and spontaneous crashes make this a hard app to stay with. Big difference between principle and practice. Just make the interface work and you've got 5 stars from me.

Worst

The P-S implementation of a digital edition is the worst. Numerous crashes, content is missing, etc. I contacted the software manufacturer and they said the P-S won't pay to add features. This is a sorry excuse for a paper which claims they win all kinds of awards. Shape up or forget it.
