The county itself is located directly adjacent to Chicago’s Cook County (along it’s western border). Nearly 1,000,000 people populate the county’s nearly 335 square-mile area. The DuPage County Fair Grounds, county jail, and county administration offices are located in Wheaton, IL. The county has a wealth of forest preserves and parks, mostly serviced by the DuPage County Forest Preserve District. Some of the most popular forest preserves include Blackwell Forest Preserve (Warrenville), Herrick Lake Forest Preserve (Wheaton/Warrenville), Kline Creek (Wheaton), Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve (Woodridge/Naperville), Saint James Farm (Warrenville/Wheaton), Churchill Woods (Glen Ellyn), and Pratt’s Wayne Woods (Wayne). The DuPage County Forest Preserve District has regularly received recognition for the fine job they do maintaining these natural resources. In addition to the preserves, DuPage County is also home to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. DuPage County is known to have some of the highest-performing school districts in the nation. The are public school systems are generally very well managed and quite successful in preparing children for future success. Naperville School District 203 and Wheaton School District 200 have regularly performed far above the national averages. The College of DuPage is recognized as one of the leading community colleges in the nation. The college is located in Glen Ellyn, IL, and has recently undergone extensive expansion and renovation. The College of DuPage has boasts state-of-the-art facilities and technology that is vital in today’s educational instruction. College programs are focused on occupational, medical, and professional eduction paths.
