Early in his career we worked on Food Processing and then Food Engineering magazines in a sales and then management role. He was the founder and a principal in Carpe Diem Communications where he developed and launched Food Quality magazine, The Food Quality Award and The Food Quality Conference & Expo as well as Pharmaceutical Formulation & Quality and Contamination Control magazines. Under his direction, Food Quality and Pharmaceutical Formulation & Quality received editorial excellence awards from The American Society of Business Publication Editors. In 2007, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. acquired Carpe Diem and continues to publish Food Quality and Pharmaceutical Formulation & Quality. Rick continues his entrepreneurial interests with the formation of Innovative Publishing Co. and the launch of Medical Device Summit in 2009 and Food Safety Tech in 2012. She holds a Bachelors degree in Life Sciences, a Masters degree in Journalism, and an MBA. Starting her career with Industrial Economist, a business publication in India, she rose from the ranks of a Business Correspondent to Vice President. She later worked with Carpe Diem Communications in the U.S., where she was the Editor-in-Chief for Pharmaceutical Formulation & Quality. She subsequently moved to global public relations firm Burson-Marsteller in New York, where she advised healthcare clients. After a brief stint of working with the Clinton Foundation as program manager, Sangita now brings forth her strong understanding of science, technology, management and writing to Medical Device Summit and Food Safety Tech. Prior to joining AdvaMed, Tom was Senior Advisor for Scientific Strategies at Georgetown University Medical Center, Senior Science Writer and Philadelphia Bureau Chief of Red Herring, a technology-oriented national business magazine, the Research and Creative Director for a graphic and industrial design firm specializing in medical products and services, and an independent marketing and educational consultant to pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device firms. He is the author of five books on topics including literary biography, the law, psychiatry, and the history of the pharmaceutical industry, has co-authored seven humor books, and has written many articles for magazines and newspapers including the Atlantic Monthly, Scientific American, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. He has done exhibition concept design and master plans for several U.S. science museums, and created the internationally traveling exhibit Salt of the Earth. Tom has a degree from Columbia University and did graduate work in developmental neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania.
