MEET MAKENNA I’m a former gymnast, but more relevant now, I’m a gymnastics coach, wife of a gymnastics coach, and mother of a gymnast. I’ve worked at competitive gyms and recreational gyms in several states. I’ve coached babies in parent-tot classes, teens in optional levels, and everything in between. Between my husband and I, we have over 20 years of gymnastics coaching experience from preschool gymnastics through high-level competitive and collegiate teams. I understand the sweat, sacrifices, and passion it requires to achieve excellence. I also know it’s not the number of hours one practices, or the skill level one achieves, but rather, a genuine love for the sport, that truly makes one a gymnast! Through all of my experiences, I’ve met hundreds of inspiring individuals. Gym Gab, is the collaboration of talents, creativity, and ideas of the family and friends whom I have enlisted to share in this dream. I hope to introduce you to the amazing contributors along the way! EYREFAM MEET JESSIE I am joining this team because Makenna is generous enough to think that I would make a good sidekick in this Gym Gab adventure. I live for adventure and since most of my life has been lived for gymnastics, it just seems so fitting. As a once-obsessed gymnast turned dancer turned gymnastics coach turned Mama to little gymnasts, I have quite the history of being in the gym, being with children, and finding ways to make myself work harder than I ever did as a gymnast (what a concept, right?!). I’m excited to work hard on this blog with Makenna! With my degree of Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Utah, my years of coaching club gymnastics and tumbling in multiple dance studios, being a personal and group fitness instructor, writing for several local magazines, along with working crazy hard to be a good mama (not there yet–but trying) to my pretty excellent kiddos, I hope that I will make a good, if not pretty excellent sidekick to Makenna…who I think is pretty excellent herself! Here’s to the adventures ahead! There are sure to be many! WHY THE BLOG Over the past decade-plus of coaching, we have had many gymnastics-related conversations with parents. After repeating topics with new generations of parents (oh so many times!), Makenna decided it was time to take her experiences, knowledge and opinions and turn them into a fun distributable format. As a gymnastics parent, you have limited options when seeking insight into the gym world. Unfortunately, most of your information comes from the parent sitting next to you in the viewing area. She wanted to remedy this! Starting in 2013 Makenna played around with different ideas and posts, but felt overwhelmed trying to balance family, work, and the blog. At the beginning of 2014 she asked Jessie to join in on the fun! WHAT GYM GAB HAS TO OFFER The sport of gymnastics has something to offer everyone. Similary, Gym Gab has something to offer every parent, whether your child be a beginner or trains 30 hours a week.
