    About the site and the recipes I learned to cook standing in a chair at my grandmother and mother’s kitchen counter, and over the last twenty-five years have studied the art and practiced on my family and friends. I still call Granny and Mama to ask for directions and there are many things that I’ll probably never get exactly right. Many of the foods they cooked, and consequently many of the foods I cook, don’t have written instructions. They live in our heads and we simply know what to add by sight, touch, or taste. I’m now taking some of those recipes and trying to determine an exact amount for ingredients so that we have a record of all our favorite family dishes. It’s a difficult process! MY GREAT-GRANDPARENTS MANY YEARS AGO. This blog is my homage to my upbringing in rural Georgia. I love to cook old-fashioned Southern country food for my friends, who love to eat it but complain that I make them fat—and I’ve found now that the kids are gone, they call up and ask for recipes, so this is an easy place to provide them with step by step instructions.
