Neuhoff Communications literally is a family company. The organization, a holding of the Neuhoff Family Limited Partnership, has origins dating back to 1955, when its chairman, Roger Neuhoff, and his wife, Louise, purchased their first radio station in Charlottesville, Va. That station eventually became Eastern Broadcasting, where Roger and Louise’s son Geoff began learning the broadcast business with his first radio-announcing job, in Falmouth, Mass. From there, Geoff learned all aspects of the business before buying his first stations in Springfield, Ill., from Eastern, and began working with Springfield General Manager Kevin O'Dea. Geoff then purchased stations in Danville, Ill., and started working with Mike Hulvey. Neuhoff Communications was formed in 2003, with the sale of the Danville operations from Geoff to the NFLP. As acquisitions continued, Geoff wanted to differentiate the Neuhoff brand from the many large media “machines.” He coined the phrase “Media Made Locally” to showcase the company's dedication to improving the communities it serves. In 2011, Geoff Neuhoff was named Illinois Broadcaster of the Year, his proudest achievement. His parents, Roger and Louise, were there as he accepted his accolade. In July 2012, Geoff died suddenly, and his wife, long-time broadcast executive Beth Neuhoff, was appointed by the family to continue his legacy of “Media Made Locally.”
