Welcome to the Point Reyes Light, a weekly newspaper serving western Marin County. The Light has been the paper of record for the coastal communities of Point Reyes, Inverness, Marshall, Olema, San Geronimo, Woodacre, Lagunitas, Forest Knolls, Nicasio, Dillon Beach, Bolinas, Muir Beach, and Stinson Beach since its founding in 1948. We take pride in rigorous reporting and engaging prose as we tell the stories that affect the diverse population of West Marin. Our newsroom is located in Inverness, the bayside village bordered by Point Reyes National Seashore where the Light began as the Baywood Press. Our small editorial team—consisting of an editor, reporter, photographer and research fellow—works independently of our nonprofit owner, the Marin Media Institute. As a low-profit limited liability company our publishing company supports itself through the traditional revenue streams: advertising, subscriptions and street sales. We are dedicated to sustaining the tradition of village journalism, which for us means mustering the courage to dig deep, developing the dispassion needed to present unbiased news, and preserving the belief that a good newspaper is integral to the resiliency of a community. We strive toward the standard of investigative excellence set by former publisher Dave Mitchell, who earned the paper a Pulitzer Prize for meritorious public service in 1979. On our website you will find most of the content published in our print edition, along with extras: videos, slideshows, breaking news and extended stories and columns for which we don’t have room in print. We will continue to post archives. We have a link to our biannual literary travel journal, the North Coaster. We also have information about advertising and ways to subscribe and write letters to the editor. We hope you enjoy our work as much as we do.
