Welcome to ShoreBread Magazine! We embrace the idea that any information you seek should be available 24/7. We are, and will always remain, a strictly online publication; we adore technology, convenience, and are a little bit crunchy…go green! ShoreBread Magazine was created to generate information and magazine quality articles pertaining to shore life on a daily basis. We are your Daily Slice of Coastal Life! There are fantastic publications already in place that cover a great deal of coastal living. We support their efforts, and you can find many of their articles and segments in various sections of ShoreBread. We are proud to be your daily connecting point to all things related to the lifestyle of the shore. Our original content is focused on a simple philosophy…millions of people visit the shores and coastal bays of Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia every year. Many others come for a summer and never leave. And still others are born and bred here and would never dream of moving anywhere else. There is more to this coastal region than the shoreline and the sunsets. The people tell the stories of the landscape and you will get to know them all, right here. What’s in a name? A famous line for certain, but one that begs an answer in this case. One day we hope that ShoreBread sticks on the tops of everyone’s tongues, becomes fantastically commonplace, and needs no further explanation. However, this happens to be the platform where we should divulge the meaning behind the name, and here you have it… “ShoreBread” is a bit old-fashioned; a throw back name, really. It is the idea of “breaking bread” with someone, communing over food and entertainment and sharing a part of oneself. That concept embodies our restaurants, our local lifestyle, and the mentality of the visitors we love. As locals, we celebrate this lifestyle…the cuisine, the culture, the sports, the whole experience. We are fortunate in that many people wish to emulate this existence, even if it is only one week a year. Through our magazine, and the stories of those who reside here, we hope to make even the visitors feel as if they were born and “bred” here. ShoreBread is the brainchild of a web developer, a writer, and a social guru. With our combined skills, we will do our utmost to cover everything we think you want to know. But, as human beings, we realize our own limitations and we also embrace your own individual experience as a local, or sometimes local. We invite you to suggest stories, ask us questions; share your videos and photos. Contact Us and send us your slice of ShoreBread. ALI BAKER - ASSOCIATE EDITOR Ali is an Eastern Shore local through and through. After attending Salisbury University for undergrad and grad school, Ali spent a few years living the fast life in Brooklyn and Manhattan before deciding to transition back to the beach life here in Ocean City. Ali has spent the past decade working as both a writer - bouncing back and forth between freelance writing projects and full-time reporting gigs - and as waitress/bartender, serving in the trenches of the service industry. These days Ali works full-time for ShoreBread, but when she's not working you can find her at the beach, outdoors with her dog, Annabelle, or bouncing around town with friends and family. Ali is particularly interested in health and fitness, food and dining, reading and collecting books, and of course, finding new stories to uncover and share here on ShoreBread. READ ARTICLES BROOKE FEICHTL - CONTRIBUTING WRITER Brooke is currently enrolled in her junior year at Salisbury University, majoring in Communications with minors in English and History. When she isn't busy at school, Brooke is a Contributing Writer at ShoreBread. Brooke began working with ShoreBread as an intern this fall, and after finding a knack for researching and writing about "a daily slice of coastal life," Brooke made the decision to join the ShoreBread team as a Contributing Writer. Being relatively new to the Eastern Shore, Brooke enjoys learning about the differing culture from her home in Centreville, Virginia. Coming from the DC area, she hopes to add a new perspective to traditions on the Eastern Shore, while discovering all of the great things the Shore has to offer. READ ARTICLES ASHLEY BROWN - CONTRIBUTING WRITER I’m a 23 year old lifetime Berlin resident, born and raised. I enjoy writing for reason and traveling in search of people who still collect the sunshine. I’m an all-time civil and animal rights activist. I’m also locally involved in the art community and fondly enjoy creating quirky and surreal pieces that make you wonder. I appreciate being a millennial and want to change the world of course, one word at a time. I enjoy campy horror movies, vegetarian cuisine but not polka dots. I am bizarre and infrequent. My favorite quote is “Life is like a Box of Chocolates…” because life isn’t anything like a box of chocolates. No matter what you get its going to be somewhat enjoyable…..it’s chocolate. READ ARTICLES SYD NICHOLS - COLUMNIST I was born in a suburb of Baltimore in 1970 to amazing parents who provided the perfect upbringing, with the exception that I spent a majority of my childhood with a wedgie—I’m the youngest of three kids by nine years—we are still very close. I have a drop-dead gorgeous, freakishly intelligent wife whom, for reasons still unbeknownst to me, is head over heels in love with me; as I am her. I am the very proud father of three children ranging in age from 20 years, to five months. Not a misprint, you read it right. There may be more kids to come because, as it turns out, I really enjoy the process of making them. I spent my formative years as the kid in class with the high IQ and the low GPA. Focus was/is not my strong suit. LOOK, A SQUIRREL! The pharmaceutical companies didn't invent ADD until I was already an adult. I have a culinary degree and an A.C.F. Chef certification, but it was easier to meet girls from behind the bar than in the kitchen. I also have a hotel and restaurant management degree which means absolutely nothing more than that I came to grips early on with the fact that I would be stuck in the business for life. My favorite color is plaid. My long-term goal is to wake up tomorrow. I’m ashamed but yet strangely proud of my savant-like knowledge of 70’s and 80’s music. I love football, cheese, my children, and vodka—not necessarily in that order.
