ABOUT THE BOOM CLUB The Boom Club had its humble beginnings in a nondescript ranch house in a nondescript city in Indiana in 1969. That’s where and when four young kids would knock with a “boom” on each others bedroom walls in the middle of the night as a signal to gather and sneak out of their beds to meet in the living room for the Boom Club to commence. Out of eyesight and earshot of their parents, the Boom Club members would watch old movies and snack on Pop Tarts, Ho-Hos, and Pringles for hours. With their bellies stuffed and their eyes heavy-lidded, they would tiptoe back to their warm beds just as the TV screen filled with static. So you see, we here at the Boom Club come by our obsession with pop culture and entertainment honest. It’s in our roots and those roots run deep and they run long. On each episode of the Boom Club, we’ll take an irreverent look at current and retro pop culture. If it is now or ever was a hot topic in pop culture, we’ll discuss it on the Boom Club. We here at the Boom Club are also proud of our Hoosier roots. That’s why in each episode we’ll shine a spotlight on Hoosiers who have made good. That’s right; not every celeb is from the big city. We grow ‘em down on the farm too. BOOM CLUB MEMBERS AMY K. Your host Amy K. is a legacy member of the Boom Club. Although too young to be an original member of the club, out of family loyalty, her siblings granted her trial membership status. Four decades later, she is still awaiting full membership. BIG BRO Big Bro is our resident comic book and genre show geek. His love of comic books was born at Camp Clements in 1965 at the age of eight. Since then he has spent countless hours and dollars building one of the most impressive comic book collections in the neighborhood. ANN THE KING Ann was a founding member of the Boom Club. She especially enjoyed nights when club members stayed up late to watch Sammy Terry. She is saddened and ashamed that she never knew until adulthood that Sammy Terry was a play on the word cemetery. SHEILA GLYNN Retro Food contributor, Sheila Glynn has the unique distinction of causing the temporary disbandment of the Boom Club after waking up the parentals with her incessant and annoying crying during a particularly scary episode of the Sammy Terry show. Turning to food for comfort during this difficult time in her life, Sheila Glynn began cultivating a discerning palette and mean cooking skills at a young age. MOLLY SUBER THORPE Molly is a Hoosier living in Los Angeles, California and a recurring contributor to the Boom Club with her Molly’s L.A. segment. She works as a freelance graphic designer and calligrapher and spends her free time cooking, baking, and exploring new restaurants. She also did all of the design of the Boom Club website.
