The Journal of Music (originally JMI: The Journal of Music in Ireland) was founded as a bi-monthly magazine by musician Toner Quinn in 2000.

Over thirteen years, the magazine has broken new ground in music writing and won Irish and international awards, notably a design award from the Periodical Publishers’ Association of Ireland and the Utne Independent Press Award for Arts Coverage in Washington DC.

In March 2011, the magazine was launched as an online publication and now attracts over 110,000 readers annually.

The current editor is composer and musician Benedict Schlepper-Connolly.
