    In 2002 there wasn't an independent publication for students in the UK, NUS had put a stop to their own magazine and there appeared to be a gap in the market. That's where we came in! The National Student (TNS) is the free and independent publication for students in the UK. TNS was founded by James Thornhill in 2002 whilst he studied for a degree in journalism at the University of Lincoln. In early 2003 TNS first hit campuses as the UK's first national, independent, peer-led student publication. The first TNS website was launched a few weeks prior to the launch issue. TNS works with student journalists across the UK to bring the best coverage from campuses nationwide and offer our writers a valuable step-up in the media industry. People who have got involved with TNS now sit at desks at the BBC, NME, the Guardian and one is a newly published author. In 2010 TNS went into partnership with BigChoice Group Limited to further develop our services. Late 2010 saw the launch of the new TNS Campus Editor initiative placing editors at campuses across the country to provide the best coverage from each university. Early 2011 saw TNS re-launched with a new look and new website, with a focus on delivering across multiple digital platforms including social media, mobile and email.
