This is that page where I say “So glad you’re here!” You know, like the written version of a welcome mat. But, I think we can skip those formalities. Of course I’m glad you’re here; it means one more page view and I’m going to need to tout those page views some day when I want to write a book. So, really, thank you. I started this blog during the summer of 2012 while inhabiting an apartment in Plano, Texas (not my current location), working in corporate America (still my current day time location) and assuming my lofty dreams of being a writer would never come to fruition. If I couldn’t be a writer, I guessed I could at least be a blogger. Now, I consider myself both. Imagine that. My twenty-something experience is not completely unique because most experiences are not completely unique. But, I think the world/society/insert-amorphous-term-to-describe-a-general-group pegs twenty-somethings as one malignant mass of entitlement and I just don’t buy that. After all, it’s not entirely our fault we grew up with Barney assuring us that we are special. But, I think there is more to one’s twenties than floundering in a sea of uncertainty and whining. Despite the mayhem and offhand happenings of your twenties, I also believe you can be in complete command of your narrative and journey. This is my narrative and journey. I am the Head Bitch In Charge. My narrative and journey have included the natural growing pains of rent and student loans, harrowing heavyweights of rape and suicide, the jungle of post-college “dating” and the company of good people, cheap wine and the capacity to write it all out. All of those things influence who I am and how I look at life. You’ll find a shit ton of personal essays here, many of which chronicle my evolution as a writer and my shifting beliefs as a feminist. You’ll also find features and guest posts from people who are intriguing, wonderful and accomplished in their own right. If you want exhaustive views of dating and relationships, you won’t find much of that these days. I used to write far too much about my dating life, but I stopped because writing about dating is more taxing than actually just dating. Plus, people actually read this damn thing now and I don’t need a couple hundred strangers knowing who slept in my bed on a Friday night. Not cute. But, if you’re interested in those stories, check out the archives circa 2013. If you’ve found your way here, even if it was through a Google search that lead you astray, I hope it’s as good a time for you as a reader as it is for me as the writer. I write for women who are observant, courageous and unconventional. I write for women who can handle a few f-bombs here or there. I write for women who live on their own terms. I rant. I roar. But, mostly, I write. That’s Twenties Unscripted. Welcome to the madhouse.
