About

At Wax Poetics, we put music in context. Closing the noticeable gap in music journalism between coverage of contemporary artists and celebration of classic trailblazers, we provide extensive commentary on the dynamic relationship between past and present to educate today’s ears about the origins of their favorite music. What we started in December 2001 as a quarterly magazine, both classic and fresh, has grown into a diversified music media resource for music aficionados and general listeners alike. From our signature approach to print media to our giant steps into new media and the recording industry, we strive to revolutionize the way we educate ourselves about music.

Wax Poetics Magazine:

Wax Poetics magazine makes the perfect stepping-stone for the endless possibilities of Wax Poetics media outlets. The strength of our name relies on a passion for quality music and the history that contextualizes it.

Records:

Wax Poetics Records was formed to bring timeless, handpicked releases to the ears of eager listeners. Our label provides a platform for branded promotional releases and events that will help you reach the tastemaking music community.

Books:

In our mission to expand our reach into all relevant media, we’re pleased to present Wax Poetics Books. Unlike our signature print serial, the book affords our writers and editors room to really delve into the history of music and show the broader connection between past and present. Much like the magazine, you can expect the same high quality writing and the dopest musical investigations you’ve ever read.

Films:

With the addition of Wax Poetics Films, we present narratives, music, and visuals to an audience yearning for more. Wax Poetics Films explores overshadowed artists and music otherwise ignored by Hollywood and independent documentaries.

Wax Poetics Japan:

Using a combination of original and archival content, Wax Poetics Japan provides our Japanese readers with a new perspective on their favorite musicians. For more information check out waxpoetics.jp.

Description:

Wax Poetics is a quarterly journal focused on the African American musical tradition, from R&B and jazz to disco and hip-hop, with a look at all other funky music worldwide. With fifty issues in its ten-year history, Wax Poetics has profiled world-famous icons like Miles Davis, Dilla, James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, Barry White, Ice Cube, Erykah Badu, Public Enemy, and Smokey Robinson, and has championed lesser-known musicians and crucial scenes like Detroit’s techno explosion and Memphis’s soul stew. Each issue is packed full of content—historical retrospectives on classic musicians as well as new and up-and-coming artists—and vintage photographs rarely seen elsewhere. Once known as a bible for record collectors, Wax Poetics has grown into a real force in both the publishing and music industries, capturing worldwide audiences whose thirst for musical knowledge is insatiable.

Accounts Framework
The Accounts framework provides access to user accounts stored in the Accounts database. An account stores the login credentials of a particular service, such as Twitter, that can be used as authentication for the service. By implementing the Accounts framework into your app, you do not need to be responsible for storing account logins yourself. Instead, the user can grant access for your app to use their account login credentials, bypassing the need to type their username and password. If no account for a particular service exists in the user’s Accounts database, you can let them create and save an account from within your app.
Address Book
The Address Book framework provides access to a centralized contacts database, called the Address Book database, that stores a user’s contacts. Applications such as Mail and Messages use this database to present information about known and unknown persons.
AddressBookUI
The Address Book UI framework provides controllers that facilitate displaying, editing, selecting, and creating records in the Address Book database.
AGMedallionView
AGMedallionView is a picture view control just like the one that Apple is using at the login screen in Mac OS X Lion.
Appirater
A utility that reminds your iPhone app's users to review the app.
ASIHTTPRequest
Easy to use CFNetwork wrapper for HTTP requests, Objective-C, Mac OS X and iPhone.
Assets Library Framework
In iOS and OS X, the Photos framework (formerly known as Assets Library framework) provides classes that support building photo editing extensions for the Photos app. In iOS, the Photos framework also provides direct access to the photo and video assets managed by the Photos app, including the iCloud Photo Library. Use this framework to retrieve assets for display and playback, edit their image or video content, or work with collections of assets such as albums, moments, and iCloud Shared Albums.
AVFoundation
The AV Foundation framework provides an Objective-C interface for managing and playing audio-visual media in iOS and OS X applications.
CFNetwork
Contacts Framework
The Contacts framework provides Swift and Objective-C API to access the user’s contact information. Because most apps read contact information without making any changes, this framework is optimized for thread-safe, read-only usage.
CoreBluetooth Framework
The Core Bluetooth framework provides the classes needed for your iOS and Mac apps to communicate with devices that are equipped with Bluetooth low energy wireless technology.
